He has also undertaken specialized training both locally and internationally, including programs at Harvard University, City University London, and courses in counterterrorism and strategic communication in Switzerland.

Throughout his career at the DSS, Dr. Afunanya has held various critical positions within the organization, with his most recent role being the Public Relations Officer. His contributions extend beyond the DSS, as he has served on the Board of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Sub Committee of the Presidential Transition Council. Currently, he is a member of the Strategic Communication Inter-Agency Policy and Coordination Committee (SC/IPCC) in the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

Dr. Afunanya’s commitment to professional development is reflected in his memberships in several prestigious organizations, including the Security Institute (FSI), Society for Peace Scholars and Practice (SPSP), Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NiCarb), and the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), among others.
