JUST IN: Dean of University of Nigeria’s School of General Studies, Prof. Oguejiofo Ujam, Abducted by Gunmen

Professor Oguejiofo Ujam, Dean of the School of General Studies at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen early Sunday morning. The abduction took place on the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road, a route in Enugu State increasingly marred by reports of similar criminal activities.

Professor Ujam, a distinguished lecturer in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, was intercepted by the kidnappers while traveling along the notorious road. As of this report, the abductors have not yet contacted Ujam’s family or associates for any ransom demands.

The unsettling incident follows a separate kidnapping on Saturday, when an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), identified as Emeason Chima, was also abducted in the same area. Chima, who is attached to RS4.211 at the Ugbokolo Unit, was taken near Maduka University, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, while driving his Toyota saloon car alone. His captors have reportedly demanded N50 million for his safe release.

Further complicating the situation, an unconfirmed report claims that a commercial bus and its passengers were also seized by armed individuals along the same road on Friday, underscoring the alarming rise in abductions along this route.

Efforts to reach the Enugu State Police Command for comments have been unsuccessful, as attempts to contact the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, have not gone through.

More details will be provided as the situation develops.
