JUST IN: Dana Aircraft Skids Off Runway at Lagos Airport

A Dana Air aircraft carrying 83 passengers and crew skidded off the runway at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos while landing on Tuesday morning. All passengers and crew disembarked safely, with no reported injuries.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has been notified and dispatched investigators to the site to determine the cause of the incident. The aircraft, with the registration number 5N BKI, was grounded for further investigation.

A spokesperson for Dana Air, Kingsley Ezenwa, issued a statement confirming the incident and commending the crew for their professionalism in handling the situation. He emphasized that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated without any injuries or serious issues.

The incident is believed to be related to the weather conditions at the time, as it had been raining since early morning in Lagos and surrounding areas, leading to a wet runway surface. As at the time of the incident, it was drizzling at the airport.

Ezenwa expressed regret over the incident and reassured passengers of Dana Air’s commitment to safety. The airline is cooperating fully with NSIB and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Department, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, also confirmed the incident. She stated that investigators have been deployed to the site to gather information and determine the cause of the runway skid.

Dana Air thanked the airport authorities, crew members, and passengers for their swift response and patience during this incident.
