JUST IN: Court Rejects Yahaya Bello’s Bail Application, Arraignment Continues
Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State, suffered a setback on Tuesday when the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court rejected his application for bail. Justice Maryann struck down the request, citing that the application had been filed before Bello had been formally taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bello’s bail application was submitted on November 22, but he was not taken into EFCC custody until November 26. He was subsequently arraigned before the court on November 27. The charges against him, alongside co-defendants Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu, include a 16-count criminal indictment for alleged breaches of trust, with the EFCC accusing him of misappropriating over N110 billion.
The case is being heard at the FCT High Court under case number FCT/HC/CR/778/24.
