JUST IN: Court Refuses EFCC’s Request to Arraign Yahaya Bello Over Lawyers’ Absence
The Federal High Court in Abuja has refused a request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arraign Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi State, due to the absence of his legal representation.
Bello appeared in court on Friday over allegations of an N80 billion fraud. However, during the proceedings, the presiding judge, Emeka Nwite, queried the ex-governor on the absence of his lawyers. In response, Bello explained that he was informed of the hearing late on Thursday night and was unable to secure his lawyers’ presence on such short notice.
This comes just days after the EFCC arraigned Bello at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on a 16-count charge related to alleged money laundering involving N110 billion.
