JUST IN: Coroner Blames Parents, Doctor for Sylvester Oromoni’s Death

In a recent development from the Coroner Inquest held at the Ogba Magistrate Court, shocking revelations have emerged regarding the tragic passing of Sylvester Junior Oromoni, a 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lekki.

According to Mikhail Kadiri, the coroner magistrate overseeing the case, Sylvester’s death was a result of negligence on the part of his parents and doctor. The investigation unveiled that Sylvester’s enlarged liver was not adequately treated, ultimately leading to his demise on November 30, 2021.

Initially, Sylvester’s death was surrounded by speculation, with bullying and alleged ingestion of a toxic substance at school being cited as possible causes. He had reportedly disclosed being assaulted by five senior students of Dowen College before his passing.

However, the Lagos State Government cleared the five Dowen College staff and students initially charged in connection with Sylvester’s death on January 5, 2022.

In the latest verdict, Kadiri stated, “Based on the foregoing, it is clear that the deceased’s health deteriorated in (doctor) PW 3’s care. PW 3 did not take proper care of the deceased, completely abandoning him for a period of more than 32 hours.”

“The deceased’s death was avoidable but for the negligence of the parents and PW 3. They didn’t take him to the hospital until the day he died, subjecting him to avoidable and excruciating pain,” Kadiri added.
