President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, in Kaduna State.
The appointment comes alongside the naming of principal officers for the newly rebranded institution, formerly known as Nok University. Professor Qurix Williams Barnabas has been appointed Vice Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Professor Daniel Abubakar as the University Librarian.
President Tinubu also approved the appointments of four members to the university’s Governing Council: Mr. Thomas Etuh representing the North Central, Chief Fabian Nwaora for the South East, Professor Femi Taiwo for the South West, and Zarah Bukar for the North East. According to the presidency, these individuals were selected for their distinguished careers and commitment to the advancement of education in Nigeria.
In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu urged the new leadership team to bring visionary leadership and build a solid foundation for the university’s future. The institution is expected to welcome its first set of students in September 2025.
The appointments are in line with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes education, innovation, and institutional excellence.
