JUST IN: Bandits Kill Popular Islamic Cleric Despite Ransom Payment

Malam Aminu, a respected Islamic cleric in Katsina State, has been killed by bandits despite his family paying the ransom demanded by his abductors.

According to reports from local journalist Bakatsine Dan Katsina, the cleric, who served as the Na’ibi (Deputy Imam) of the main Juma’at mosque in Dugun-mu’azu town, Sabuwa Local Government Area, was kidnapped several weeks ago from his residence.

The bandits initially demanded a cash ransom, which was promptly paid by the family. Following that, they requested mobile phones, which were also provided. Despite fulfilling all of these demands, the cleric’s family received devastating news on Sunday, September 29, 2024, that he had been killed in captivity. Sources revealed that Malam Aminu was reportedly beaten to death by his captors.

The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the community. A resident, mourning the loss, described Malam Aminu as a man of integrity, dedicated to the well-being of the town through his prayers.

“Malam Aminu was a man of integrity, known for his dedication to the mosque and his tireless prayers for the safety and well-being of our town. It is heartbreaking that his life was taken in such a cruel manner, especially when he had done nothing but pray for protection from the violence plaguing our community,” one resident shared.

His murder has sparked outrage, with many locals believing his role in leading prayers against rising insecurity may have made him a target.

“It seems his only crime was his commitment to praying for peace and protection. His murder is not just an attack on him but an attack on our community and our faith,” another resident remarked.
