JUST IN: Atiku, Kwankwaso Meet in Abuja as Opposition Talks Gather Pace

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar met with Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso in Abuja on Saturday, in a development that adds to ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Both men were presidential candidates in the last election, which was won by Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Atiku, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), finished second, while Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) secured significant support, particularly in Kano State.

Confirming the meeting, Atiku said via social media that Kwankwaso paid him a courtesy visit and that both men discussed national issues. The post drew varied reactions across political circles.

Atiku has, since the last election, been involved in building a broad alliance of opposition figures aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Kwankwaso’s meeting with Atiku follows an earlier engagement with Rauf Aregbesola, former governor of Osun State and current National Secretary of the ADC, within the past 48 hours.
