JUST IN: Another Kano Market on Fire, Over 50 Shops Destroyed

A fire outbreak early Friday morning has destroyed at least 50 shops at the Fatima Simra Multi-Purpose Market in the Dakata area of Kano State.

The blaze reportedly started around 5:40 a.m., according to Dauda Haruna Chula, chairman of the market’s fire committee. He said the affected shops were largely small-scale businesses involved in oil production and the recycling of plastics and nylon.

“As of now, about 50 shops have been affected and the fire is still ongoing. We are expecting personnel from the Kano State Fire Service,” Chula said while speaking from the scene.

He added that the fire service and other relevant agencies had been contacted and confirmed they were aware of the situation. “We have done what we can to notify them. I can hear the sound of their vehicle approaching,” he said.

The full extent of the damage has not yet been determined, and there is no confirmed information on casualties. Some traders at the market raised concerns about the response time of emergency services.

The incident comes less than a week after a major fire at Singer Market in Kano displaced more than 1,000 traders.

Further details are expected as authorities assess the situation.
