JUST IN: Abia State University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Freed After 11 Days in Captivity
Prof. Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of Abia State University, has been successfully liberated from the clutches of his kidnappers after enduring 11 harrowing days in captivity.
The Abia State Police Command verified that Prof. Emezue was forcefully taken from a filling station in Umuahia, the state capital, over two weeks ago. Reports indicate that the academician regained his freedom on Tuesday night.
Sources close to the professor’s family disclosed that the abductors had initially demanded a ransom of N35 million. In a distressing move, the kidnappers released footage showcasing the torment inflicted upon Prof. Emezue, coupled with threats to end his life if the family failed to meet their demand of N20 million before the previous Saturday.
Presently, Prof. Emezue is undergoing medical treatment in an undisclosed hospital, a testament to the physical toll exacted during his traumatic period in captivity.
