Abia Govt Confirms Death of ABSU Student in Cult Clash
The Abia State Government has confirmed the tragic death of an Abia State University (ABSU) student amid a clash between rival cult groups on the university campus.
Mr. Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, addressed the media during a press briefing on Monday, following the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Umuahia. Expressing concern over the escalating situation, Kanu announced that the government had initiated an investigation into the incident.
“It has come to the notice of the government that there have been skirmishes in Abia State University, Uturu, within some student groups,” stated Kanu. He acknowledged the circulation of online videos depicting the fatal altercation and emphasized the government’s commitment to taking prompt and decisive measures to restore peace on campus.
“As a responsive and responsible government, some remedial actions have been taken to restore peace and order on campus. Government has dispatched security agencies to take control of the situation at ABSU. Investigation in that regard has been instituted,” he added.
In light of the unfortunate event, the Commissioner urged students across all tertiary institutions in the state to refrain from participating in any form of violence. He emphasized the potential repercussions on their lives and academic pursuits, emphasizing the need for a peaceful and conducive learning environment.
