JUST IN: Abducted Nigerian Medical Students Plea for Help as Ransom Demand Hits N50 Million
The abductors of 20 medical and dental students have demanded a ransom of N50 million for their release. The students, who were en route to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu, were ambushed by gunmen around 5:30 PM near Otukpo.
Kwaghaondo Aondona Kingsley, one of the kidnapped students, has made a desperate appeal for help via his X account, revealing that the group has been without food for two days. In his urgent message, Kingsley disclosed that the kidnappers have threatened to start killing the students if the ransom is not paid.
He posted, “We were kidnapped on our way to Enugu for a convention. They are requesting 50 million naira for the 20 of us medical students. Please help us; we haven’t eaten for two days. Contact Pius at 08163420157—he is coordinating the funds.”
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation. SP Catherine Anene stated, “Yes, the report of kidnapping is true. The report was received around 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM, and investigation is ongoing.”
The victims include students from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, as well as a House Officer identified as Dr. Louis. The medical community and concerned citizens are calling for immediate intervention to secure the students’ release and alleviate the crisis.
