Jilted Man Arrested for Setting Girlfriend’s Family Home on Fire, Killing Her and Two Others
A tragic incident in Subrinkwanta, near Bibiani in Ghana’s Western North Region, has left three people dead after a house fire allegedly set by a jilted lover.
Police say the suspect, 23-year-old Prince, also known locally as “On God,” a palm wine tapper, has been arrested and is in custody as investigations into the fire continue.
The victims have been identified as 19-year-old Benedicta Kudjo, her 61-year-old mother Maame Mary Oppong, and 22-year-old Dora Adoma Kudjo. Relatives and neighbours describe the fire as shocking, and the loss has left the community in deep mourning.
According to family members, Prince had repeatedly visited the home seeking Benedicta, a student of Queen Senior High School. The family had warned him to stay away, noting that Benedicta was still in school and that they did not approve of the relationship.
Despite these warnings, the suspect allegedly continued to insist on his intentions to marry her and reportedly issued threats during previous confrontations. Hours later, the family received news that their home had been set ablaze.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire. The suspect remains in custody, and authorities are working to determine whether others may have been involved.
