“I’ve Had Issues Carrying Pregnancies Long-Term” – Ini Edo Opens Up About Motherhood, Surrogacy
Nigerian actress Ini Edo has shared insights into her journey to motherhood, revealing her decision to have a child through surrogacy. The revelation came during an episode of Young, Famous & African when her co-stars inquired about her personal life.
When asked by Luis if she has a child, Ini confirmed she has a three-year-old daughter named Light. Further questions from Nadia followed, including whether she was married or in a relationship with the child’s father. Ini stated that she is not married and is raising her daughter alone, explaining that the child’s father has no involvement in their lives.
In a confessional, Ini admitted that she had hesitated to speak publicly about her journey but ultimately chose surrogacy to fulfill her desire for motherhood. She explained that at the time, there was no man in her life, and given her struggles with fertility, she sought alternative options.
“I never thought I would be someone who had fertility issues,” Ini revealed. “But I’ve had issues carrying pregnancies long-term. When it looked like it was not going to happen the way I wanted and I wasn’t getting younger, I explored my options. Surrogacy came up, so I took it.”
She also disclosed that she had undergone multiple IVF procedures and suffered six miscarriages before choosing surrogacy. Despite the challenges, she expressed contentment with her decision, emphasizing that she is happy raising her daughter on her own.
Ini Edo was previously married to businessman Philip Ehiagwina from 2008 to 2014. The marriage did not produce any children. In 2021, she welcomed her daughter through surrogacy.
