‘It’s the will of the American people’: Steve Bannon claims Trump will serve third term
Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon has claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump will serve a third term, describing it as “the will of the American people.”
Speaking to The Economist on Thursday, Bannon said, “Trump is going to be president in ’28, and people ought to just get accommodated with that.” Bannon, who served briefly in Trump’s first administration, suggested there were “different alternatives” to the constitutional limit that restricts presidents to two four-year terms under the 22nd Amendment. “At the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is, but there is a plan,” he added.
Bannon portrayed Trump as essential to the nation’s future, calling him a “vehicle of divine providence” and an “instrument of divine will.” He said Trump’s continued leadership is necessary to “finish what we started,” insisting that any potential third term would reflect the will of the American people.
Calls for Trump to remain in office beyond his current second term have surfaced among some Republican lawmakers, even though he has only been in office for a short time since his re-election. Trump himself has intermittently entertained the idea. In March, he remarked that “a lot of people” wanted him to consider a third term, though he later dismissed the notion in May.
Last week, however, Trump reignited speculation by posting an AI-edited video on Truth Social depicting fictional *Time* magazine covers featuring campaign years extending to 2032 and beyond. The posts also included satirical clips showing him as a king and mocking anti-monarchy protesters.
