“It Is Impossible for Tinubu to Be Re-elected in 2027” – El-Rufai Declares

Former Kaduna State Governor and Social Democratic Party (SDP) chieftain, Nasir El-Rufai, has categorically ruled out the possibility of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu securing re-election in 2027, stating that the current administration has lost the confidence of Nigerians.

In a widely shared interview on X (formerly Twitter), El-Rufai said, “Anybody that thinks it is possible for President Bola Tinubu to get re-elected is living in another country, not Nigeria. It is impossible for Bola Tinubu to get re-elected.”

El-Rufai argued that growing public dissatisfaction with the **All Progressives Congress (APC)** and the government’s policies will make it easy for even the weakest opposition to defeat Tinubu.

“I don’t see a pathway for him,” he added.

This sharp criticism comes despite continued reassurances from the Tinubu administration that the economic hardship Nigerians are experiencing will soon improve. Minister of Information and National Orientation, **Mohammed Idris**, recently defended the government’s performance in an interview on Channels Television, highlighting reforms aimed at stabilizing the economy.

El-Rufai, however, dismissed the wave of defections to the ruling party, claiming they are driven by self-interest and fear of prosecution.

“It is greedy and hungry politicians and those that are looking for money, contract, appointment, office that are defecting,” he said. “Others are defecting because they fear intimidation from EFCC or ICPC, knowing what they have done.”

Now a key player in an emerging opposition coalition, El-Rufai is working alongside figures like former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to challenge the APC at the polls in 2027.

“The 2027 election will not be APC versus any political party—it will be APC versus Nigerians,” El-Rufai stated.
