Israel Launches More Strikes on Tehran, Targets IRGC Headquarters
Israel has launched a powerful wave of airstrikes on Tehran, targeting what it described as “regime strongholds” in the heart of the Iranian capital. Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed the operation on Monday, calling it an attack of “unprecedented force.”
The strikes, which Israeli military officials say are ongoing, have zeroed in on key sites including the headquarters of the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Brigadier General Effie Defrin, spokesperson for the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), said Israeli fighter jets were “deepening the damage in the Tehran area,” with a focus on degrading Iran’s missile launching and manufacturing capabilities.
The action marks one of the boldest Israeli military operations inside Iranian territory to date and represents a sharp escalation in an already volatile Middle East landscape. The offensive comes in the wake of Israel’s June 13 strikes that reportedly killed several senior IRGC members and targeted sensitive nuclear facilities.
Eyewitnesses and Iranian state media reported widespread damage across Tehran, including hits in the affluent and densely populated Jordan Street district. One resident, speaking to CNN, described the scene as devastating, noting at least eight visible impact clouds. “Jordan Street was heavily hit,” the resident said. Another Tehran local called it “the worst series of explosions yet,” describing the blasts as both powerful and relentless.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz reinforced the government’s position, saying, “The Israeli military is striking regime targets in the heart of Tehran, with unprecedented force. For any fire aimed at the Israeli home front, the Iranian dictator will be severely punished, and the strikes will continue with full force.”
State-affiliated Mehr News Agency reported that Shahid Beheshti University, one of the country’s leading academic institutions in northern Tehran, was also damaged during the strikes.
The offensive follows rising tensions between Israel and Iran, rooted in decades of animosity and exacerbated by the renewed Gaza conflict in late 2023. Iran, a key backer of militant proxy groups such as Hezbollah and the Houthis, has been accused by Israel of supplying arms and intelligence to anti-Israeli factions across the region.
