Ireti Kingibe Demands Apology from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike

Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called for an apology from Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, following Wike’s recent comments threatening to unseat her in the 2027 elections.

Kingibe and Wike have had a contentious relationship since they took office, with frequent clashes between the two. Wike has publicly questioned Kingibe’s achievements and contributions since her election, suggesting that she has not effectively served her constituents.

Kingibe, responding to Wike’s remarks, emphasized that, as an elder, she expects a certain level of courtesy in their interactions. She expressed her willingness to collaborate with the minister, provided that he first apologizes for his derogatory remarks about her.

On July 1, Wike criticized Kingibe during a ceremony for the Mabushi Bus Terminal in Abuja, claiming the senator had not performed adequately. Wike challenged Kingibe’s effectiveness, arguing that if she were truly popular, she would be defeated in the 2027 elections.

The strained dynamic between Kingibe and Wike has been exacerbated by Kingibe’s recent accusations that Wike has neglected her calls and has not acted in the best interests of FCT residents. The senator’s election victory over Philip Aduda, a Wike ally, has further fueled the friction.
