Iran Vows to Deploy 1 Million Troops as U.S. Warships Approach the Strait of Hormuz

Tensions between Iran and the United States have intensified following a warning from Iranian military official Ibrahim al-Fiqar over developments in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on X, al-Fiqar said warships were nearing the strategic waterway and indicated Iran would respond forcefully. He added that Tehran could deploy up to one million troops if the United States initiates a ground conflict.

Al-Fiqar serves as spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, which coordinates operations and communications for both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the regular army.

The statement comes shortly after high-level talks between Iran and the United States in Islamabad ended without agreement. The negotiations, which lasted more than 20 hours, stalled over key issues, including Iran’s position on the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran maintained its stance on restricting access to the waterway, a critical route for global oil shipments. In a statement, the Iranian embassy said Tehran rejected U.S. demands, describing them as conditions Washington could not enforce through military pressure.

Leading the U.S. delegation, Vice President JD Vance confirmed that discussions were extensive but inconclusive. He reiterated Washington’s position that Iran must commit to not pursuing nuclear weapons, warning that the lack of agreement was unfavorable for Tehran.

U.S. President Donald Trump also weighed in, criticizing Iran’s handling of maritime access through the strait. He warned of potential consequences if oil shipments continue to be disrupted and cautioned against reports that Iran may be imposing transit fees on tankers.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical النفط transit corridors, and any disruption has immediate global implications. With diplomacy stalled and both sides adopting firmer positions, concerns are growing over the risk of further escalation in the region.
