Iran sets new transit rules for Strait of Hormuz while easing passage conditions

Iran has announced updated conditions governing vessel movement through the Strait of Hormuz, stating that ships must adhere to its security protocols and coordinate their passage with the appropriate authorities.

In a statement issued late Tuesday through its mission to the United Nations, Tehran said it is easing certain restrictions on transit through the strategic waterway while maintaining oversight of maritime activity.

Authorities indicated that vessels not classified as hostile, and those not involved in operations against Iran, will be permitted to pass, provided they comply with the stipulated requirements.

The development comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where the Strait of Hormuz has remained a sensitive maritime corridor. The narrow channel, located between Iran and Oman, serves as the only sea passage linking the Persian Gulf to open oceans.

The waterway is widely regarded as a critical global shipping route, with a significant share of the world’s oil trade regularly moving through it.
