Insecurity: PSC Opens Online Portal to Recruit 50,000 Police Constables

The Police Service Commission has begun the process of recruiting 50,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force, acting on President Bola Tinubu’s directive to boost community policing and reinforce internal security.

In a statement issued Thursday, Torty Kalu, spokesperson for the commission, said the online portal for applications will open on December 15 and remain accessible until January 25. He described the approval as a significant move to expand police manpower and assured that the exercise will be conducted with fairness and credibility.

Kalu emphasised that applications are free and cautioned interested candidates against fraudsters, stressing that no financial payment is required at any stage of the process.

The commission outlined the criteria for applicants. Those applying for general duty must have a GCE ordinary level, SSCE/NECO or an equivalent certificate with at least five credits, including English and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings. Candidates for specialist roles must present a minimum of four credits, including English and Mathematics, alongside at least three years of practical experience and relevant trade test certifications.

Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth. The age bracket for general duty is 18 to 25 years, while specialist applicants must be between 18 and 28. All candidates are expected to be medically, physically and psychologically fit, with height standards applicable to general duty applicants.

Kalu added that full guidelines will be available once the portal goes live on December 15, along with information on the official websites and verified social media platforms of both the commission and the police.

The PSC encouraged eligible Nigerians to seize the opportunity to contribute to national security.
