Insecurity: Kastina Youths Burn SSG’s House, APC Offices
The Kastina state Police Command on Tuesday said some youths from Dan-Musa local government area of the state set ablaze the home of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa and two offices of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Gambo Isah which failed to give reason for the actions of the youth said arrests have been made and investigation into the incident has commenced.
“Some miscreants took to the streets for inexplicable reasons and started burning tyres.
“DPO Danmusa and team swiftly moved in, dispersed them and removed the blockades on the streets.
“Some of the youths organised and moved to the house of the Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Alh. Mustapha Mohammad Inuwa, who is an indigene of the town and set his house on fire.
“The rioters also burnt down two APC offices and vandalized one. The police, army and other public-spirited individuals worked together and put off the fire.
“Consequently, 35 suspected persons were arrested while committing the act and various incriminating exhibits recovered.
“Investigation is ongoing and the command will leave no stone unturned until other perpetrators at large are fished out.”
The youths were said to be angry over incessant attacks by bandits on their community. A witness told newsmen that the latest attack on the community which occurred on Tuesday evening caused a furore in the community. Traders returning from the market were ambushed by bandits. The youths mobilised quickly and repelled them but the retreating bandits killed a motorcyclist.
“The protesters took the body of the victim to the Sarki (district head) who fled his palace on sighting the mob.
“From there, they marched to the APC office in Dan-Musa and also burnt it, chanting various slogans to register their dissatisfaction over the level of insecurity at the local government area” the witness recounted.
Kastina, the home state of president Muhammadu Buhari has been under siege from bandits and kidnappers. The governor of the state, Bello Masari said he will dialogue with the bandits to end the attacks.
