INEC Announces Manual Transmission of Results for Bayelsa Gubernatorial Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed its plan to manually transmit the results of the upcoming Bayelsa gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11. This announcement was made by the State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Obo Effanga, during an interactive session with religious leaders and faith-based organizations in Yenagoa on Wednesday.

Mr. Effanga emphasized INEC’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election. He stated that only voters accredited by the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) would be allowed to cast their votes. He also highlighted that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) had been ongoing for four weeks and would conclude on October 11, urging those who had not collected their cards to visit their local INEC offices.

Mr. Effanga further called upon all stakeholders to encourage peaceful conduct among candidates. He urged religious leaders to convey this message to their congregations and reminded politicians, who were also church members, to uphold peaceful electioneering.

The Bayelsa gubernatorial election will see participation from 16 political parties. Rev. Joseph Belema, one of the religious leaders present at the interactive session, commended INEC’s efforts and stressed the importance of conducting a free, fair, and credible election to elect good leaders. He appealed to all candidates to view the election as an opportunity to serve rather than a do-or-die contest, emphasizing that only one person would be elected to lead the state.
