“In Two Years, Hope Has Become Hopelessness” — ADC Interim Spokesperson Slams Tinubu’s Agenda

Bolaji Abdullahi, former Minister of Sports and interim spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda has collapsed into hopelessness. Speaking during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Abdullahi cited widespread insecurity, economic hardship, and a breakdown of accountability as signs of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s failure.

“In two years, hope has become hopelessness,” he said. “People are dying every day — people are being shot in their own homes — and the government behaves as if it’s Christmas.”

Abdullahi said the ADC was chosen by a coalition of opposition leaders to offer Nigerians a genuine alternative, grounded in discipline, equity, and internal democracy. He stressed that the goal is not just to take power but to build a sustainable political platform capable of restoring public trust. “God forbid we arrive at 2027 and there’s no alternative,” he said.

He described the ADC as a vehicle for long-term political reform and nation-building, emphasizing that it must become a party where all members are equal and accountability is non-negotiable. Responding to recent criticism from former ADC presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu, who accused the coalition of hijacking the party, Abdullahi dismissed the remarks as coming from a place of personal frustration rather than principle.

“I tried to Google him and couldn’t find anything beyond the fact that he once ran for office,” Abdullahi said. “I’m only six months older than him, yet he’s positioning himself as a youth voice.”

He also pushed back against calls to abandon the political class in search of new leadership. “Politics is played by politicians, not by farmers or bankers. If those in the past failed, do we go to Ghana or South Africa to import politicians?” he asked.

Abdullahi said the ADC is being restructured into a party where rules are respected and leadership is earned, not imposed. “Our handshake logo represents agreement, mutual respect. We are building a party where rules matter and everyone plays by them,” he said.

Earlier today, ADC interim national chairman David Mark reaffirmed that the opposition coalition is determined to stop Nigeria from becoming a one-party state.
