Impeachment: Fubara Politically Safe in APC — Jandor

Abdul-Azeez Adediran, founder of the Lagos4Lagos movement and popularly known as Jandor, has said Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains politically secure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite renewed impeachment threats.

Mr Adediran made the statement following the Rivers State House of Assembly’s decision on Thursday to initiate fresh impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, over allegations of misconduct.

The impeachment move is the latest development in the protracted political dispute between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking after taking part in the APC’s electronic registration exercise at Ward G in Irewe, Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mr Adediran expressed confidence that the situation in Rivers would not escalate under the APC.

He said the APC’s internal leadership structure and dispute-resolution mechanisms would prevent political instability in the state.

According to him, the party’s leadership, under President Bola Tinubu, provides a clear chain of authority that was lacking during earlier impeachment threats when the crisis unfolded within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Adediran, who was the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State in 2023, said his concerns were greater during the initial impeachment episode under the PDP because of what he described as weak internal leadership.

He added that the current situation was different, as APC lawmakers were involved and the party had defined processes for managing internal conflicts.

Mr Adediran said he was confident that President Tinubu would intervene decisively to restore order and ensure a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

He disclosed that the president had already summoned Governor Fubara and Mr Wike to address the matter.

He urged residents of Rivers State and members of the APC to remain calm, expressing optimism that the party’s leadership would maintain political stability in the state.
