“I’m Still in Charge of Super Eagles” – Eguavoen Denies Resignation Reports

Super Eagles’ caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has dismissed rumors suggesting that he has resigned from his position. The former Nigerian international reaffirmed his commitment to the team upon his return from a recent AFCON qualifier in Rwanda.

Speaking to reporters, Eguavoen said, “Whatever people are reading out there is not correct; I am still in charge.” He clarified that, in his capacity as the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), it is his responsibility to oversee the Super Eagles during this period.

Eguavoen also addressed speculation about his future plans, noting that he would sit down with NFF officials after the recent matches to discuss the team’s approach moving forward. “I only mentioned that I would have discussions with the federation’s hierarchy after these two games,” he added, expressing disappointment over the spread of false information.

Under Eguavoen’s guidance, the Super Eagles recently secured a 3-0 victory against Benin and played to a goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali. The team currently tops Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification series, with four points from two matches.

Eguavoen stressed the importance of staying focused, urging the media to avoid spreading negative reports during this crucial phase.
