“I’m Heading to Office, Haven’t Committed Any Crime” – Embattled UNIZIK VC, Odoh
Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh, the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), has responded to reports of his dismissal by President Bola Tinubu, asserting his innocence and intention to continue his duties.
On Wednesday, President Tinubu announced the dissolution of UNIZIK’s Governing Council, which included the removal of Prof. Odoh and the university’s Registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Ifoema Nwokike. The news broke widely in the media, but Odoh maintains he has not received any formal notification regarding his removal.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Odoh said, “I haven’t been communicated with. There’s no written communication from the NUC or the Ministry of Education. There has been no panel of inquiry or investigation. All I saw yesterday was information in the media saying I’ve been removed.”
The embattled Vice Chancellor insisted his appointment was lawful and followed due process. “I was not appointed through a press release. I was appointed by a constituted authority. I have not committed any crime,” he said. “After this interview, I’m heading to the office.”
