“I’ll Not Support a Fraudulent Person, Your Evidence Will Help Us” – Aisha Yesufu Tells Adeyanju
Activist Aisha Yesufu has urged political commentator and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, to present evidence backing his repeated allegations of fraud against former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi.
Adeyanju has in recent weeks accused Obi of fraud, manipulation, and religious bigotry — claims that have sparked backlash from Obi’s supporters, many of whom allege the attacks are politically motivated and sponsored by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obi has since filed a lawsuit against Adeyanju, demanding proof of the allegations in court.
Yesufu, a staunch supporter of Obi and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement, welcomed the legal move, saying it provides an opportunity for Nigerians to independently evaluate Adeyanju’s claims.
“Barrister Deji Adeyanju has repeatedly said that he has evidence to show that Mr Peter Obi is a fraud and that Mr Peter Obi should sue him. This is a lawyer speaking!” Yesufu wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“As a supporter of Mr Peter Obi, I am interested in the evidence the Barrister has. I would not be one to give support to anyone that is fraudulent. This case will offer me and millions of others the opportunity to have access to the evidence so we know whether to continue our support for Mr Peter Obi or withdraw it.”
Yesufu emphasized that Obi’s decision to approach the courts, rather than use state power to silence critics, demonstrates his commitment to due process.
“If Mr Peter Obi had used machinery of the state to get Barrister Deji arrested and thrown into jail like many dictators we fight against are doing, then I would be leading a #FreeDejiAdeyanju campaign and calling out Mr Peter Obi! As for now, #LetsHaveTheEvidence,” she added.
