#IgboMustGo: Ohanaeze Ndigbo Demands Stop to Anti-Igbo Threats: Calls for Government Action
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has strongly condemned recent threats against Igbo people in Lagos and other South-Western states. These threats, circulating on social media under the hashtag #IgboMustGo, demand the forced relocation of Igbo residents from these areas.
Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has denounced the threats, highlighting their divisive nature and potential to disrupt peace and security.
In a statement issued late Thursday, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, National President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, warned of severe consequences should any violence occur against Igbo people. Nnabuike emphasized that the Igbo community, historically resilient, would not tolerate such provocations.
“We want to unequivocally declare that Ndigbo are not cowards; our forefathers were not cowards; they were brave and so are we,” said Nnabuike. He urged those inciting discord to recognize the strength and resolve of the Igbo people, asserting that any aggression would be met with robust retaliation.
Nnabuike criticized the ongoing protest, suggesting that Igbo involvement would only be misconstrued as an ethnic agitation. He urged Igbo people to remain resilient and not be intimidated by the threats.
The Ohanaeze Youth President called on security agencies to arrest those responsible for these threats, warning that failure to act would suggest complicity. He also urged the Federal Government to address the issue decisively, emphasizing the need for immediate action to restore public confidence.
Additionally, Nnabuike reiterated support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, acknowledging recent initiatives such as the South East Development Commission. He also advocated for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and equitable federal appointments.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council continues to call for calm and unity, while demanding robust government intervention to safeguard the Igbo community.
