If Your ‘Own Bank’ Can’t Guarantee Real-Time Money Transfers, How Do You Expect INEC to Deliver Real-Time Results? — Reno Omokri Takes on Obi

 

Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s ambassador-designate, has criticized calls for real-time transmission of election results, targeting Peter Obi and other advocates of the measure.

 

In a video circulating on social media, Omokri questioned the feasibility of expecting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver instant results nationwide. He pointed to reported service issues at a bank linked to Obi, highlighting complaints from customers about delayed money transfers, app outages, USSD service failures, and transaction reversals.

 

“Dear citizens of Nigeria, I want you to fact-check this,” Omokri said in the video. “Last year, Peter Obi’s bank experienced tens of thousands of complaints from customers unable to complete transactions in real time. Yet, Obi went to the National Assembly to demand real-time transmission of election results.”

 

Omokri argued that if a private institution serving millions cannot ensure reliable real-time digital services, expecting INEC to do the same for over 100 million registered voters is unrealistic.

 

He urged Nigerians to verify his claims and consider the practical challenges of implementing real-time result transmission on a national scale.
