“If Peter Obi Couldn’t Rescue Anambra, How Can He Rescue Nigeria?” — SGF Akume

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has criticized former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, questioning his ability to lead the country. Speaking with journalists on Friday in Abuja, Akume argued that Obi, who served as governor of Anambra State, could not “rescue” his own state and therefore could not be expected to rescue Nigeria.

Akume praised President Bola Tinubu, highlighting his ability to maintain harmony among Muslims, Christians, and traditionalists, and credited him with steering the country’s economy toward recovery. “Nigeria is a huge country in the move, and under his direction, we know that we are going to reach the promised land,” Akume said, noting that the nation’s Gross Domestic Product has grown by 4.4%.

He dismissed claims by Obi and others who speak of “rescuing Nigeria,” saying, “If Peter Obi could not rescue Anambra, he’s talking of rescuing the 36 states and Abuja. For other people I don’t want to mention their names. They came, they saw, they didn’t conquer even in their states.”
