ICPC Invites Aliko Dangote as Investigation Begins into Ex-NMDPRA Boss Over $7 Million School Fees Allegations

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has formally invited businessman Aliko Dangote for further information regarding his petition against former Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) managing director, Alhaji Farouk Ahmed. The investigation into Dangote’s allegations is set to commence on Monday, with Dangote expected to appear in person or be represented by his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja (SAN).

ICPC has set up a specialized panel of investigators to handle the probe. Dangote’s petition accuses Ahmed of corruption and misappropriation of public funds, including allegedly spending over $7 million on the education of his four children in exclusive Swiss schools. The petition also alleges that Ahmed undermined domestic refining by colluding with international traders and oil importers through the continued issuance of import licences.

Despite Ahmed’s resignation, ICPC has confirmed that the investigation will proceed. A source within the commission emphasized the importance of the case, noting that Dangote or his lawyer will present relevant evidence to support the petition. “He who alleges must prove,” the source said, adding that after formal adoption of the petition, Ahmed will be asked to respond to the allegations.

The petition details the schools attended by Ahmed’s children and the specific amounts paid over six years. Dangote’s legal submission calls for Ahmed’s arrest, investigation, and prosecution for allegedly living beyond his means as a public servant and misusing public funds.

This development follows an earlier legal dispute between Dangote’s refinery and NMDPRA, in which Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE filed a N100 billion suit challenging the issuance of import licences. The suit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, was discontinued in July 2025.

ICPC guidelines allow any person worldwide to file complaints alleging offences under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000. Petitions must include details of the alleged offence and supporting information to assist investigators. ICPC spokesperson John Okor Odey confirmed receipt of Dangote’s petition on December 16, 2025, and affirmed that the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
