Ibas Sets Deadline for Completion of Rivers Assembly Complex

Ibok-Ete Ibas, the sole administrator of Rivers State, has announced a firm deadline for the completion of the ongoing reconstruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex. During a project inspection on Saturday, Ibas urged the contractor, Monier Construction Company (MCC) Limited, to intensify efforts and deliver the project within the agreed timeframe.

He emphasized that restoring legislative activity in the state is a central part of his mandate and expressed confidence that the project would be completed as scheduled. According to Ibas, the state government has provided all necessary funding, and the contractor must now ensure strict compliance with the project timeline.

“I have been at the executive arm of the state governance structure and one of the pillars that is missing, for now, is the legislature. And for them to function effectively, they also need a place to work from,” he said. “I am here to be sure that work is going on as expected, so that by the end of the period, this place will be ready for those who need to use it.”

The new complex, located on Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, will house a two-storey structure with 34 en-suite offices, an elevator, gallery, meeting rooms, and a conference hall. Ibas was joined on the inspection by George Nwaeke, head of the Rivers State Civil Service. Omaka Oko, general manager of MCC, briefed them on the progress and ongoing construction phases.

Ibas reiterated that his primary responsibility as administrator is to uphold law and order, while ensuring that all arms of government are able to function smoothly.
