“I Will Vote for and Work Vehemently for Tinubu in 2027” – Reno Omokri
In a major shift, Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and a fierce critic of President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 election, has pledged his support for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential race. In a recent tweet, Omokri declared, “If there are three names on the ballot in 2027 and they are as follows: Waziri Atiku Abubakar, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Peter Gregory Obi… I will vote for and work vehemently for the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, so help me, God!”
Omokri, who had previously supported Atiku Abubakar and led protests against Tinubu, notably at Chatham House in the UK, has gradually been warming up to the president’s administration. He has defended several of Tinubu’s policies over recent months and even met with the president. Justifying his change in allegiance, he praised Tinubu, stating, “In terms of acknowledging loyalty, economic handling, dispute resolution, and having a forgiving heart, Asiwaju is a far better politician than anyone on that list.”
His public endorsement has stirred widespread reactions, with critics accusing him of inconsistency, given his earlier attacks on Tinubu. However, some political observers speculate that Omokri may be positioning himself for a role in the current administration, especially with the vacant post of presidential spokesperson.
