“I Will Put My Heart on the Field to Ensure APC Wins Abia in 2027” — Orji Kalu

Senator Orji Kalu, who represents Abia North, has declared his commitment to ensuring that the All Progressives Congress (APC) wins Abia State in the 2027 general elections.

Kalu made the statement on Thursday during his annual New Year visit to the Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, at Ekoli in Edda Local Government Area.

The senator said he would devote his full political strength to helping the APC reclaim power in Abia from the Labour Party.

“I will support President Bola Tinubu and the APC governorship candidate in the elections,” Kalu said. “I will put my heart on the field to ensure that the APC records a landslide victory in Abia.”

Although he described the current Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, as his personal friend, Kalu stressed that his focus was firmly on politics and securing victory for his party.

Beyond electoral matters, Kalu called on state governors to take greater responsibility for security within their states, rather than relying solely on the Federal Government.

Reflecting on his tenure as Abia governor, he said the state experienced relative peace and safety under his administration, even when other parts of the country were facing serious security challenges.

“There were no cases of kidnapping or similar crimes in Abia during my time as governor,” he said. “Governors should take ownership of security issues in their states.”

He commended Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru for maintaining peace and stability in the state, urging other governors to follow the same approach.

Kalu also explained that his yearly visit to the Ebonyi APC chairman was rooted in a long-standing personal relationship. He described Okoro-Emegha as loyal and dependable, noting that he had known him since childhood.

According to Kalu, he had previously entrusted Okoro-Emegha to former Ebonyi Governor David Umahi with instructions to remain loyal, a principle he said Okoro-Emegha has continued to uphold under the current administration.
