“I Want to Join Forces with the President” – APGA Rep Says as He Defects to APC
By Arthur Maduka
Joseph Nwobasi, the member representing Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He announced his defection on Sunday at the Ezza North Council Headquarters, accompanied by his supporters.
Elected in 2023 under the APGA platform, Nwobasi explained that his decision was motivated by a desire to support President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru. He praised Governor Nwifuru’s leadership, citing notable empowerment programs and infrastructural developments as key reasons for his move.
“I am happy to join the APC. My decision stems from a desire to support Governor Francis Nwifuru and his administration fully,” Nwobasi said. “We want to join forces with the President and especially Governor Nwifuru to build a better state and Nigeria.”
Also defecting was Kevin Okeh, a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. Their defection was welcomed by Ezza North Local Government Chairman, Chief Moses Ogodo-Ali, who declared it a demonstration of Ezza people’s united support for Governor Nwifuru’s expected 2027 re-election bid. He further announced a collective agreement among the Ezza people not to field any candidate against Nwifuru in the next governorship election.
Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the APC chairman in Ebonyi State, welcomed the new members, stressing the importance of unity and discipline within the party. He warned against the creation of factions and urged the defectors to work harmoniously with existing members to strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
