“I Supported You, but Hardship Is Becoming Unbearable” – Cynthia Morgan Tells Tinubu

Nigerian singer Cynthia Morgan, now known as Madrina, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action to address the worsening economic hardship in the country. Despite initially supporting Tinubu and his decision to remove the petrol subsidy, she now believes its impact has become too difficult for Nigerians to endure.

In a video shared on her TikTok page, Madrina expressed deep concern over the rising cost of living. She admitted that she had applauded Tinubu’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, recognizing that Nigeria could not afford to keep spending billions on it. However, she now feels that the country lacks the necessary structures to sustain a complete subsidy removal, which has led to soaring inflation and worsening economic conditions.

She pointed out that petrol prices influence almost every commodity in the market, and with the Naira’s exchange rate worsening due to high import dependence, the situation has become unsustainable. According to her, the nation’s GDP per capita currently stands at $860, making it difficult for many Nigerians to afford basic necessities.

While acknowledging that subsidy removal was meant to free up funds for national development, she argued that the economy is not prepared for such a drastic shift. She warned that hunger and crime rates are rising as a result. Instead of resorting to protests or criticism, Madrina urged Nigerians to plead with the government to reconsider its stance. She proposed a “begging challenge,” calling on authorities to reinstate at least 50 percent of the subsidy to provide some relief to struggling citizens.
