I Operate from My Country Home Because Abia Govt House is Unbefitting for Me – Gov. Otti

In a recent address, Abia State Governor Alex Otti clarified his decision to operate from his Nvosi Umuehim country home instead of the official Government House. Speaking on Saturday during the inauguration of the newly constructed office for the Arochukwu Local Government Area Chairman, Otti stated that the existing Government House facilities are substandard and unsuitable for the state’s needs.

Governor Otti criticized the previous administrations of Senator Theodore Orji and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for their incomplete and inadequate construction efforts at the Ogurube Layout, describing the unfinished complex as insufficient for a state with such a well-educated populace. He assured citizens that these dilapidated structures would be replaced with a new, fitting Government House by the end of the year.

“Before the end of the year, we are going to bring down those dilapidated structures and build what befits the educated people of Abia,” Otti promised.

The governor also addressed his controversial appointment of Transition Committee Chairmen for the Local Government Councils, whom he referred to as mayors. Despite initial resistance, he expressed satisfaction with their performance, highlighting the contributions of non-politician millionaires and foreign-based professionals.

Governor Otti praised Joe Aru, the Transition Committee Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government, for his longstanding support and shared vision for Abia’s future. Aru, in his speech, emphasized the significance of the new LGA secretariat as a symbol of the community’s dedication to progress and service.

“The new Arochukwu LGA Headquarters will serve as the nerve centre for our local government operations and a place where impactful policies are formulated, services coordinated, and community engagement fostered,” Aru stated.
