“I Have No Ambition, I Just Want to Remove This Evil I Brought Upon Nigerians” – El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has ruled out any intention of contesting the 2027 presidential election, stating that his only political objective now is to help unseat the Tinubu administration, which he described as a “tragedy” and an “evil” he regrets supporting.

In an interview with Arise News, El-Rufai expressed deep remorse for backing President Bola Tinubu’s rise to power and said he is committed to correcting what he sees as a grave error.

“I have no ambition,” he said. “I just feel that having contributed to bringing about this tragedy to Nigeria by contributing to the emergence of Tinubu as president, I should contribute in my last lap… towards removing this evil that I believe will destroy Nigeria if left unchecked.”

El-Rufai insisted that the majority of Nigerians are disillusioned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and are searching for a credible political alternative.

“We have polled it. There is 91% disapproval of this administration across the country. 91% disapproval is the worst in Nigeria’s history,” he stated. “But Nigerians are looking for a credible option. I want to see people coming together, putting aside their differences and ambitions, and giving them an alternative to this failure of a government.”

He added that he would support any political platform agreed upon by consensus to achieve the goal of removing the Tinubu-led government. Asked about working with high-profile politicians such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, or Rotimi Amaechi, El-Rufai replied that prominent names do not equate to political ambition.

At 65, the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory said he considers this effort his final contribution to Nigerian politics before retirement.
