“I Escaped With My Life”: Banker Narrates Chilling Kidnap Ordeal by Organ Harvesters
A 29-year-old banker from Nassarawo community in Gombe, Malam Sabi’u Usman Saurayi, has shared the chilling story of how he narrowly escaped from suspected organ harvesters who attempted to remove his kidney. Sabi’u was abducted last week and held captive until he managed a daring escape.
Speaking on June 5, Sabi’u recounted that his nightmare began when he fell ill with a fever and took a commercial motorcycle. As his condition worsened, the rider dropped him by the roadside to recover. It was there that a man approached him and offered a ride. He accepted, believing the driver might be one of his bank customers, especially after hearing him call his name.
Unbeknownst to him, two other men were hidden in the back seat. As soon as he entered, they pulled him into the middle, forced a beanie over his head, and drove off. After a 25-minute ride, they arrived at an unfamiliar location where he was taken into a room and surrounded by three men. One, wearing gloves and a face mask, drew his blood, took a saliva sample, and demanded a urine sample. Despite initially refusing, he was struck until he complied.
Sabi’u, who was weak with fever and fear, refused to eat the food offered. He was left alone in the locked room until late that night. The next day, he overheard a conversation indicating he was to be taken to Kaduna for surgery to remove his kidney. The operation was scheduled for Monday, June 2, and a doctor was allegedly involved in evaluating his test results.
Realising his life was at stake, Sabi’u waited for the right moment. After his captors left with the doctor, he examined the room and noticed the ceiling was made of a softer, rubber-like material. He mustered the strength to break through and crawl to freedom.
Meanwhile, the Gombe State Police Command confirmed ongoing investigations into criminal cases involving organ harvesting. Police spokesperson Buhari Abdullahi disclosed a separate, deeply disturbing case involving the abduction and murder of a six-year-old boy, Muhammad Ibrahim Bulama, from Bura-Bunga village in Bojude. The boy was allegedly killed by eight suspects for money ritual purposes. Two were initially arrested, leading to the capture of six more.
One suspect confessed to receiving the boy, slaughtering him with a knife, and dismembering his body. The upper half was dumped in a well, while the lower half was given to an accomplice. The police urged the public to remain alert and cooperate by providing information that could help tackle criminal activities in the state.
