“I Cry Whenever Anybody Is Killed in Plateau — Tinubu Will Restore Peace,” Says Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed deep sorrow over the ongoing violence in Plateau state, saying he often cries whenever someone is killed there. Speaking on Saturday at Jos Polo Field during an All Progressives Congress (APC) event welcoming defectors, Akpabio highlighted the toll insecurity has taken on the state’s communities.
The gathering drew top APC figures from the north-central zone, including National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, Senator and former Plateau Governor Simon Lalong, House Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule, and Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Akpabio lamented the loss of lives and destruction of homes, emphasizing the need for peace in Plateau. He assured that President Bola Tinubu is committed to restoring stability. “Too many lives have been lost. Too many homes destroyed. Plateau deserves peace, and anyone who wants to govern this state must be committed to peace,” he said.
The Senate President also welcomed political defectors into the APC, predicting the party’s success in Plateau in 2027. He praised the incoming National Chairman, describing him as a man of integrity and valour, and credited the leadership of President Tinubu for the party’s growing influence in the state.
Among the defectors were Senator Istifanus Gyang, former PDP campaign director Latep Dabang, Labour Party governorship candidate Patrick Dakum, and former NNPP candidate Alfred Dabwam. Plateau remains one of the most affected states in the north-central region, with insecurity driving deaths and displacement of residents.
