“I Am the Greatest Loser; My Party Is Not Participating in LG Election” — Gov. Fubara
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed that he considers himself the biggest loser in the upcoming local government elections, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not be participating.
The announcement comes in the wake of significant political shifts in the state. On September 24, several caretaker committee chairmen loyal to Fubara reportedly defected to the Action Peoples Party (APP) just days before the scheduled elections on October 5.
During a meeting held on Thursday, Fubara stated, “In this election, I am the biggest loser; my party is not participating. But because of the Supreme Court ruling that there must be elected officials to manage the affairs of local government, as the governor, I have to obey that.” He emphasized the necessity of continuing the electoral process, even in the absence of PDP representation.
Fubara further remarked, “What we are doing here is to make sure that even if my party is not participating, the council process must stand. A good number of people here are my party people… and you are not even benefiting from it and you are here supporting it. So, what is the problem?”
