Husband Kills Man Over Suspected Affair With Wife
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Alhaji Hassan Umaru, over the killing of 45-year-old Sukari Abdul in Bundila village, Gulani Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Sunday, February 1, 2026, and was reportedly linked to Umaru’s suspicion that Abdul was having an affair with his wife.
Police said the suspect allegedly attacked Abdul with a cutlass at the village market square, inflicting severe injuries to his neck. Officers from the Bara Divisional Police Headquarters responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Bularaba Primary Health Care Facility, where he was confirmed dead by a medical practitioner.
Umaru was arrested at the scene, and the weapon used in the attack was recovered. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, as warning residents against taking the law into their own hands when handling social or marital disputes.
The Command condemned domestic violence and urged members of the public to report grievances to the appropriate authorities rather than resort to self-help. Police said anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in line with the law.
