Husband Admits to Killing, Cooking Wife, Released Due to Lack of Evidence

In a shocking case from Hyderabad, India, a man has confessed to killing and cooking his wife, but authorities have released him due to insufficient evidence.

Gurumurthy, a 45-year-old retired soldier, told Rachakonda police that he killed his wife, Venkata Madhavi, 35, following a heated argument. According to his confession, he slammed her against a wall, causing instant death, before dismembering her body with a kitchen knife. He then allegedly boiled the remains for several hours and used a pestle and mortar to grind down her bones, disposing of the remains in Meerpet Lake.

Police have seized household items, including a pressure cooker, a kettle, and knives, as potential evidence. Forensic teams and a dog squad have searched the lake for body parts but have found nothing so far. Investigators are working to gather technical and scientific evidence before proceeding further with the case.

Authorities initially grew suspicious of Gurumurthy after reviewing CCTV footage near his residence. While the footage showed Madhavi entering the house on January 15, she was never seen leaving. Gurumurthy was taken into custody for questioning, where he initially gave inconsistent statements before allegedly confessing.

Despite this admission, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ch Praveen Kumar stated that the case remains under investigation as a missing persons case due to the lack of physical evidence. Until concrete proof is found, Gurumurthy remains a free man, leaving many questioning the legal system’s ability to secure justice in the case.
