Hunger Protests Inflict N500 Billion Loss on Economy, Says Trade Minister
The ongoing EndBadGovernance protests have inflicted significant damage on Nigeria’s economy, with losses estimated at N500 billion, according to the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite.
In a statement shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Dr. Uzoka-Anite expressed deep concern over the economic and human toll of the protests. She revealed that approximately N52 billion worth of goods have been destroyed, while the death toll has tragically risen to 21.
“The loss of lives during the protests is saddening. My thoughts are with the families affected,” the minister stated. “The looting, resulting in billions lost, is a severe setback for our economy and entrepreneurs. Let’s honour those we’ve lost by striving for more peaceful and constructive dialogue.”
Dr. Uzoka-Anite emphasized that the destruction and looting are particularly damaging to businesses and entrepreneurs across the country, urging for peaceful dialogue to address the issues fueling the unrest.
