FG: ‘We Have Blocked N83 Billion in Protest Funds, Arrested Political Collaborators’
At Council of State meeting held at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, the Federal Government reported uncovering over N83 billion in funds directed toward recent nationwide protests. This includes $50 million in cryptocurrency, with $38 million seized from four crypto wallets, and an additional N4 billion contributed by various political actors from Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina.
The report was delivered by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, detailing the financial networks supporting the protests. He also pointed out a European national as the mastermind behind the use of foreign flags during the demonstrations, a person who will soon be sought by the Police. Local conspirators in the capitals of Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano have already been apprehended.
President Bola Tinubu, who convened the Council of State meeting, aimed to address issues ranging from the #EndBadGovernance protests to national security, the economy, and food security. The Council of State, a consultative body, includes key figures such as the President, Vice President, past leaders, and current governors.
Amidst the discussions, ministers presented on various topics, including national security and economic stability. Finance Minister Wale Edun noted a gradual improvement in the economy, with a decrease in inflation rates. The meeting concluded with the Council expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, underscoring the collaborative effort to address the nation’s challenges.
The Council of State’s recommendations, while advisory, often play a significant role in shaping national policies and decision-making.
