Full List: Anglican Church Appoints New Bishops for Enugu, Jos, Okigwe, and Other Dioceses

 

Venerable Sam Ike has been named the Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, succeeding Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma, who retired in January of this year. The announcement was made following the Episcopal meeting in Abuja on Monday night, where six other senior clergymen were also elected as bishops.

 

The newly elected bishops include:

 

  • Jos Diocese: Ven. Ephraim Gongdem
  • Okigwe Diocese: Ven. John Obinali
  • Enugu Diocese: Ven. Sam Ike
  • Ijebu North Diocese: Ven. Godwin Odubena
  • Ahoada Diocese: Ven. Bernard Hanson
  • Wusasa Diocese: Ven. Titus Alkali
  • Osun North Diocese: Ven. Samuel O. Ifeyemi

Korede Akintunde, the Communication Officer for the Church of Nigeria (CoN), issued a statement detailing the proceedings of the Episcopal Synod held at St Matthew’s Anglican Church, Maitama, in Abuja Diocese on Monday, August 12, 2024. The meeting included a Holy Eucharistic Service and the election of bishops and archbishops for various internal provinces.

 

The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, The Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, announced the elections, stating, “At the end of this House of Bishops’ Synod, seven clergymen were elected to fill the vacant Episcopal Sees in seven Dioceses.”

 

Additionally, four archbishops were elected as follows:

 

  • Enugu Province: Rt. Rev’d Sosthenes Eze, Bishop of Enugu North Diocese
  • Kwara Province: Most Rev’d Israel Afolabi Amao, Bishop of New Bussa Diocese
  • Ibadan Province: Rt. Rev’d Williams Aladekugbe, Bishop of Ibadan North Diocese
  • Lokoja Province: Most Rev’d Daniel Yisa, Bishop of Minna Diocese

Rev. Ndukuba encouraged prayers and support for the newly elected bishops and their families as they prepare for their new roles, undergoing necessary processes, training, and consecration. The consecration of the bishops-elect and the presentation of the archbishops-elect are scheduled for Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Standing Committee Meeting of the Church, hosted by Nike Diocese in Enugu State.
