How NAF Air Strikes Destroyed Illegal Refining Sites In Rivers

In a decisive move against economic saboteurs and oil thieves, the air component of Operation Delta Safe executed targeted air strikes, dismantling an active Illegal Refining Site (IRS) at Yellow Island near Bonny Island in Rivers State. The operation, led by the Nigerian Air Force, successfully destroyed equipment and reservoirs laden with illicitly processed products.

Additionally, the Air Force reported the obliteration of two Cotonou boats discovered at Arugbana near Okrika, further intensifying efforts to curb illegal activities in the oil-rich state.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Air Force Spokesperson, confirmed the successful strikes, emphasizing the commitment to continued operations against those involved in illegal refining and oil theft in the South-South region.

On November 27, 2023, similar strikes targeted a concealed active IRS southeast of Abisse in Rivers State. The operation revealed reservoirs and a storage tank suspected to contain unlawfully refined products, all of which were effectively engaged and destroyed.

Another location, northwest of Omama, was also targeted due to suspicions of containing items linked to stolen crude oil. The reconnaissance flights that followed over Cawthorne Channel, Bille, Dariama, Okrika, Bonny Island, and Idama showcased a series of abandoned and destroyed illegal refining sites—a testament to the impact of the ongoing air operations.

Air Commodore Gabkwet emphasized that these inactive sites signify progress and the effectiveness of the measures employed. Regardless, Operation Delta Safe remains unwavering in its commitment to eradicate or significantly reduce the activities of those sabotaging the region’s economic stability. The Air Component will persist in executing its assigned duties until these illicit activities are brought to a halt.
