How I Survived My Dad’s Death and Leaked Sex Tape Scandal in One Year – Tiwa Savage

Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has reflected on one of the most difficult periods of her life, revealing how she navigated the grief of losing her father and the shock of a leaked sex tape in the same year.

In an interview with British media personality Zeze Mills, the award-winning singer described 2021 as a year that almost broke her. She recalled how the death of her father was followed closely by the public release of a private video, which she had earlier revealed was being used in a blackmail attempt.

“My dad died and my sex tape was released. The only way I could have survived was not to think about it,” Tiwa said, adding that mentally blocking it out was the only way she could stay sane.

Despite the emotional toll, Tiwa expressed gratitude for still being able to share her story and connect with audiences years later. “Just the fact that you even want to talk to me, people still want to hear what I have to say after all these years… I’ve gone through so much, but have I really enjoyed the moment?” she reflected.

The “You4Me” hitmaker also spoke candidly about her personal life, admitting that she has never truly experienced love apart from that of her son, Jamil. “I don’t think I’ve experienced true love apart from my son. Looking back at all my relationships, I was just infatuated. Even when I was married, I don’t think it was true love,” she confessed.

Tiwa Savage was married to her former manager, Tunji “Teebillz” Balogun, from 2013 to 2018. Their union produced Jamil, who the singer now describes as her greatest source of love and strength.
